About
Renfrewshire’s Friendly Choir
The Kilbarchan Singers enjoy performing to a high standard, and are renowned for being a friendly and sociable group who enjoy outings, meals and the occasional tour abroad.
The choir was founded in 1982 as a madrigal group. In the ensuing twenty years the group has grown in size and repertoire, mainly singing a cappella music of composers spanning six centuries, from Palestrina and the Scottish medieval composer, Carver to modern day composers such as Tavener and Gorecki. Over the years the group has performed regularly in Paisley Abbey, St Giles Cathedral Edinburgh, Pollok House Glasgow as well as giving occasional concerts in Glasgow Cathedral, Kelvingrove Art Gallery, The Burrell Collection and other venues.
The group has developed from a small, intimate madrigal choir to a somewhat larger chamber choir of some twenty six singers able to undertake performances of large choral works such as the Faure Requiem, Vaughan Williams Mass in G minor, selections from Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Handel’s Messiah and works ancient and modern.
Recent tours have involved singing in Freiburg in South Germany in 2002 to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the choir, Notre Dame Cathedral, where the Singers provided the music for Saturday Evening Mass, and Brussels Cathedral (2007), where the Singers provided the music for Sunday Morning Mass.
